Insufficient weight: BMI is lower 18.5
Normal weight: BMI from 18.5 to 24.9
Excess weight: BMI from 25 to 29.9
Obesity: BMI 30 and more.

For children BMI is calculated differently, because boys till 12 years and the girl till 10 years develop unequally. Medical tables with BMI for children allow doctors to reveal problems with weight at a very early stage.
The Body Mass Index was developed by the Belgian sociologist and statistician Adolphe Quetelet in 1869.
