Bariatric Conversion in Mexico

Bariatric Conversion

There are a couple of factors that often determine the type of bariatric conversion surgery a patient will have. Some of these factors include patient’s body weight and any associated risk factors involved.

There’s a wide range of bariatric conversion procedures available, hence the need to establish which weight loss surgery suits your case best, speak with us and ask Dr Jose A Castaneda. The following are the different types of bariatric conversion surgery available.

Gastric Banding

In Gastric band surgery a ring is placed on the stomach. The ring is placed in such a way that it forms a pouch that can hold food. This small pouch helps you consume small amounts of food whilst making you feel full sooner and with much less food intake than you are used to.

Gastric banding delivers superb results and it offers numerous advantages:

The risk of complications is minimal.
And, your surgeon is able to adjust the ring depending on what kind of results you desire or work better for your medical case, hence it is more flexible than perhaps other weight loss surgeries available.

Gastric Bypass

In a gastric bypass procedure, the stomach is surgically divided and a smaller stomach part is achieved, limiting the amount of food that a person can take. In other words, you eat a lot less food but you feel fuller much faster and you no longer experience the hungry feeling like you are used to.

The other part of the divided stomach does not hold any food but is used specifically for digesting food. As the amount of food absorbed in the body is reduced, weight loss is achieved.

Gastric Sleeve Resection

Gastric sleeve surgery is done specifically to the stomach and does not involve the intestine. In this procedure, a portion of the stomach is surgically removed leaving a sleeve like part of the stomach. The main difference between gastric sleeve and the gastric bypass is that the gastric sleeve does not affect the opening of the stomach therefore digestion is not affected.

The procedure is often done to patients who have certain health conditions and may be unable to go through a more drastic form of surgery like gastric bypass. It is however worth noting that the procedure cannot be reversed hence should only be done to patients who really require it and have certain health conditions.
